Yesterday I got a call back from a vitiligo specialist in Los angeles named pearl grimes she is supposed to be a very high regarded doctor in this field and I was super exited to hear them tell me about treatment options, it was all going well utility they out what insurance I have and my HMO won't cover vitiligo treatment, so now I have to wait like 5 months for the treatment I really need. I was soo dissappointed.

yea, im gonna see dr. grimes next month and it does seem to be pricey, but oh well.... I've heard she's really a great dr. so im looking forward to my consultation, and no, my insurance wont cover it either. vincent, how was your consultation?
Cleo: I am going thru the forum discussions I read so much about Dr. Grimes. Just wondering if any generic comments you can share with the group here. Just trying to understand...her philosophy. For example, our Derm clearly believes that 1) V is a curable condition in the initial stages and we just have to treat aggressively. 2). He keeps on saying that, if we catch it before it's irreversible stage, it's completely curable. 3) Just protopic augmented by soem light steroid....But, most of his experience and success is with children and young adults (all ages below 17 or 18). Thanks in advance. ...
I didn't have a consultation but spoke to one of her assistants about the type of treatment options for my type of vitiligo, they take ppo insurance but I am on an HMO, how much is the price of your consultation? I was going to wait till January so I can upgrade my insurance through my work, I just may go in earlier if the price is not too much. Her patients seem to have gotten very good results

yea, i have hmo, hadnt really thought bout switching, my window to change ins will be in oct. however, with the current ins i get meds for reasonable price, protopic for bout 7 bucks a tube. so anyway, i believe the consultation will be $450.00, biopsy $250, Lab work can be up to $600... ill let you know bout my consultation next month.....
Puva therapy and a combinational of topic and oral treatment, every dermatologist Ive seen hasn't been very enthusiatic about treatment options and this doctor has been really succesful with other patients, it's just a real bummer that my insurance won't cover it
