I'm sure most of us have heard the old "Oh, you can barely notice it...." I know I have, and for a long time, I believed it. I used to go out a lot, mostly to dark bars. No one ever said anything about my vitiligo, but it sure showed up in photos, but still, I figured people just didn't oay that close attention. It wasn't until I started volunteering at my daughter's school that I came face to face with the reality that EVERYONE noticed it. I had about 20 first graders asking what was wrong with my skin. What's hilarious is that I use self tanners to mask my vitiligo, but moreso if I have to be around children. I just don't always feel like talking about it. I wish I could be more secure with it.

Children are honest. I don't mind people asking, I like the opportunity to educate them. Most people I run across have never heard of vitiligo but when I tell them Michael Jackson had it they seem to understand then. Do self tanners work for you? I have tried them with no luck.
