Floucinonide?

I went to see a new doctor today who prescribed Floucinonide for me to alternate with Protopic. Anyone had a positive or negative experience with Floucinonide?

  • I have NEVER heard of this. Is it cheaper than Protopic?

    • Oh yeah Amenda, much cheaper. You see, Protopic is made of a special clay (dirt) found only in northern Japan. Floucinonide is a cortisone ointment -- I paid $315 for my Protopic and only $25 for the Floucinonide... :-) I thought it was certainly worth a try.

      • FYI - The last dermatologist I went to gave me a coupon for Protopic.  I believe it was $40 off...

Also, Protopic is better to use (if it works) since it doesn't have the side effects of using a steroid ointment.

Floucinonide (Lidex is brand name I think) is a steroid and has the side effects of thinning your skin, stretch marks...it's good if used for a short time period and to have your doctor keep an eye on it.

  • I think I tried the generic version of this and it worked on my hands.  After a few months I have spots on my hands again...not sure if it's the same spots or not.  Also, I've heard that you shouldn't really use steriods since it can thin the skin or cause stretch marks. I didn't have any issues since I used it 1-2 a day for less than a month.  I am actually thinking about asking my doctor to give me another prescription so I can get repigmentation on my hands since the xcimer laser treatments don't seem to working on my hands so far. I didn't have any other issues with using it.

    • Thank you for your feedback
