Am wondering what people's experiences have been with earlier signs of vit...I'm talking prior to stark white patches. Does skin look blotchy? Are there areas of skin that seem to have lightness mixed with regular color? I guess being brown allows me to see variances in skin better than people with lighter skin. It's maddening because the blotchiness isn't going stark white, but they're not going away either...and, the weird pigmentation keeps spreading.
Any insight would be fantastic! Thanks!!!

My spots first started out being very quick t turn white, and some still are. But I have some patches on my legs that are half turned and on their way to getting lighter all the time. Weird that they aren't as quick, but they are a bigger area. And Jo, mine itch too haha
No, I've not seen any change yet , but from what I've heard they'll turn to full blown vit spots eventually. As we all know vit is vey complex condition, so in some people it might take years for the lighter spots to get milky white... for others they may start depigging rapidly.
If you are not already on any kind of treatment - you ought to start ASAP !!
In my case too - Vit doesn't suddenly appear start white one morning. When Vit decides to "appear" somewhere in my body - it will make my brown skin lighter, shade by shade over a time period. When I see a blotch I consider it as an "early warning" and apply my ointment right away. Needless to say, the time it takes to turn a blotch back to original skin color ought to be far less than the time taken to turn a white spot back to the original color !!
Hi Sherwin - My lighter spots have not continued to lighten. I have decided that they aren't going to that its just blotchy skin. I refuse to allow them to lighten. Some may call this denial, but i call it the power of positive thinking/insanity.
I have about a billion white freckles. Whom I curse and slather with Protopic. As a kid I hated my regular freckles. Now i hate my white freckles.
I will ask my derm next week if my light patches are likely vitiligo that hasn't lightened yet. But again, I refuse, so she could be wrong. ;-)
so kris and sarah - have your lighter spots continued to lighten? the color in my blotchy areas haven't seemed to get lighter, but the blotchiness does spread and pop up on other parts of my body.
Yeah, I too have a few spots that are very, very light and others that are milky white. I too have brown skin, but I can hardly see some of them ( they are more visible in a dim light). Sadly it's an early sign of depigging as the melanocytes in that particular area started to die. Recently, I've noticed very light but a large spot on my forehead. Vit really sucks!
In summary, Vit started as a whitish island on the eyelids and ankles. Spots on the knees and elbows.
We are Asian Indians. It started as a small whitish island on the eyelid for our daughter. But, on elbows and knees, very fine white spots started. Our Derm prescribed protopic and we trusted him simply. On average, it took 4.5 months on eyelid and knees. It's taking forever on ankle. We strongly believe that, Vaccination induced Vitiligo for our child.
Hi Sherwin - I have some spots that are lighter than other spots of my skin and then my very white vitiligo patches. I too thought maybe the lighter patches were vit before i lost all the color in that area. But from what i've read it starts with a white freckle then the white freckles multiply. I see an uber fancy derm on Nov 13th and will confirm this then. But it seems our vitiligo lives all revolve around freckles, white freckles and then hoping for brown freckles.
Hi Sherwin, I am brown skinned naturally and the way mine came in was pure white, no pigment at all on the spots. It started with milky white spots on my upper back then spread to other parts pretty quickly. I have been using protopic oinment for treatment and the spots are freckling in with brown dots and slowly filling out the white spots with brown. I would try treatment as soon as possible if you can and maybe you can slow down the process,
