Does anyone have any tips/advice...

on what I can use to cover a sizable patch on my cheek?  It seems as if getting direct sun on this area caused this to happen, (it almost looks like a burn, best way to describe it).  Although it is not currently "white" I suspect it will likely turn that way :(  In the meantime, when I go out in public, I want to be able to disguise it.  I don't really have an issue with using makeup to hide the depigmented areas under and around my eyes, on my forehead, and near my nose, but this one is tough!  Any ideas?  Currently, I have been using Physician's Formula green concealer cream on that area, then cover with two coats of Revlon Dream Mousse (letting each coat dry in between), then I put a coat of Cover Girl Oil Control liquid makeup over my whole face (including that spot) to get a more even color.  Then I put a coat of Cover Girl pressed powder on top of that, and brush my cheeks, chin, nose, and forehead with a bronzy blush so I don't look too vampire-ish, lol!!  Any ideas?  This one is pretty sizable and to me anyway, you can still see the outline of it even WITH makeup.  Since I work in a store with VERY bright lighting, I am stressing out on how to make it less noticable.  Thanks in advance!  Also, sorry one more question, would it be advisable to use an spf of 100 or more in the future besides avoiding direct sun to prevent more of these types of spots from happening?  Thanks again!  sorry, newbie here and so many questions!!

  •   My daughter has a port wine stain birthmark that covers half her face.  It is much harder to cover than vitiligo because it it is harder to take away color rather than add it..  When she was young we went to San Francisco to one fo the MAC studios (not a department store counter) they had a product that is used for theater makeup (could be studio fix?). They used a concealer and this studio fix, and it was a miracle.

    • when she gets older, she can probably use mono-benzone to lighten or remove the pigment if she want to get rid of that birthmark.

      • port wine stains are vascular, the skin itself isn't "stained" it gets it red color by blood vessles that have grown on top of each other over and over again right next to the skins surface.

  • Suggestion.  Try the medicine, Protopic.  It is known to work well on face (especially on the eyelids and cheeks). Takes 8 to 12 weeks.  You should see some change in 8 weeks.

Give it a try.  If you did NOT try, you really do not know, whether it works for you or not.  Several people got lucked out with Protopic.  We have spectacular success with Protopic, especially on the face.

    • Thank you very much!  I have heard that a LOT about Protopic, have a derm appt. tomorrow and plan to BEG for a script for this, at least for my face, I am so hopeful it can help me.  It has now spread to my neck, shoulders, upper arms, chest and back, and to my chin and I am getting so self conscious even with makeup (it's getting hard to go to work now to be honest). BUT if it wasn't so apparent especially under my eyes and on my face, I was would feel a LOT better.  Thanks again!

      • Protopic doesnt work just where it's applied, it works thru the blood stream, it affects the face more. so even if you just put it on your arms and whatnot, it will still affect your face.

trick is, once you start using it, u cant stop, or u miht reverse the affects, and your body might become immune to it so it wont work anymore. good luck.

  • I have vit on my face and i went to macys and had the lady that worked at mac try everything on me lol. i wanted somthing perfect well close to perfect. this is what i use......prep prime, studio sculpt spf 15, mineralize skin finish and i add blush to my checks. i use it almost every day and my tubes lasted me three months. i sat there for hours until i was satisfied and i am so glade i did. people always tell me they love my complection and i say its called mac lol.

    • Roseanna, thanks so much for the helpful info!  I actually made an appt. with a Macy's consultant at the Mac counter for tomorrow to work with me.  The lady I spoke to over there told me she is familiar with vitilago and that is a common condition for a lot of their customers, which was comforting in a way.  I am hopeful she will be able to help me find a great way to cover this.  Thanks so much!!

      • your welcome :) let me know how it goes. remember if you dont like the color or think it doesnt match good let them know just dont settle for anything but what you like.

        • hey Roseanna, great advice about the MAC counter!!!  (major thumbs up girl!!)....I was there for around an hour, I didn't like the first shade she tried, it was waaaayyyy too orangey, so she wiped it all off and started over, and I am glad I insisted that she did.  The second try was a bit on the light side (I am already pretty light so that is okay), but after she finished with the bronzer and the blush, WOW, just WOW!  I am amazed at how much better it looks!!!!  Both of us were actually nearly crying we were so happy, and I was wearing a REAL smile for the first time in months!!  I bought similar products to what you are using e.g. Prep Prime, Prolong Wear Concealer, Prolong Wear Foundation SPF10, and Studio Fix pressed powder.  Also invested in a set of their "good" brushes, and was not just walking, but STRUTTING out of that mall, felt like a million bucks!!  Thanks again!!  I haven't actually felt HAPPY like this in forever!!  (and she even covered the patch on my forehead so I don't have to wear bangs if I don't want to YEEEESSSS!!!)....
