Hi,
I am an African American woman in my mid 30s. I've had vitiligo for about 12 years and it still bothers me a lot. I normally avoid dating but when I sometimes take the chance and date someone, my anxiety about the future skyrockets. I find myself comparing me to their previous girlfriends' looks and telling myself that they'll never love me as my vitiligo spreads.
Vitiligo has really taken a huge toll on my social life and I don't know what else to do. I'm depressed all the time and I can't believe this is the life God has given me to live. I mean this really can't be life. I'm sorry for all of the negativity but I had to get this off of my chest.

I know all too well the anxiety and fear that grips you in this area. I just want to encourage you that your are still beautiful - whether you believe it or not.
And yes, you will find love. And not only will you find love, but you will find the best type of love, as it will be more than just surface level, but real true love that weighs the heart of a person.
I don't know if you are still on this site, as i have been off for some time, but please be encouraged and know that you are worth loving, and the person that God has for you will see past all that you are ashamed of and love you entirely.
You have shared such kind words and there is truth in your words, and people do say that somebody somewhere is made for you.....true love always wins........S.
I was in the same situation and yes it does hurt especially when people do not see the real you and are only interested in the outer beauty and not the inner beauty. I used to search for many years am 50 now but very young looking but still single, but am coming to terms as there does not seem to be any choice. Yes it hurts terribly when you see your friends and relatives finding true love and getting married, having children, all the things I had dreamt of and yes I have tears in my eyes when ever I go to weddings but what can I do, my heart cries from within and tears in my eyes, I wipe my tears and carry on.
I manage my feelings by concentrating on my work and keeping my feelings hidden well. I still live with a flicker of hope that one day I will meet that special person and that's all we can do is live in hope....................
So do not lose hope and stay strong ..................
My thoughts exactly. But I try to pray and tell the Lord, and He comforts me. It sure is hard to find somebody see beyond the skin, isn't it? I got vitiligo after I turned 40, so its a mixed feeling, those who knew me from the past, can't stop staring, and those who just met me can't stop staring either....(sigh)
When people used to see me I felt very uncomfortable but as the years went by my confidence in myself grew and now when people ask me why am not married I tell them the truth that nobody wants to marry me because of my skin and often enough they get embarrassed for asking me such questions as they never expect an honest answer back and I found that this way people see me in a different way not the weak person they used to know but a stronger person who is not afraid to speak about her vitiligo.
I just don't care anymore if am destined to have love support and companionship in my life then I will if not then I cannot do much about it................. S..........
