Do you know if these tests are supposed to be done on children with vitiligo as well, when my daughter was diagnosed they check for type 1 diabetes and that was it. If there are other things I should be finding out I would love to know. My daughter is only 5, and a happy go lucky kid, she loves her gray hair and as of right now feels her spots make her special. I just want to make sure that all health issues are taken care of because I have concentrated so much on the emotional I just don't want to miss anything!
Because vitiligo may be associated with pernicious anemia (a condition in which an insufficient amount of vitamin B12 is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract) or hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid gland), the doctor may also take a blood sample to check the blood cell count and thyroid function. A blood test to look for the presence of antinuclear antibodies (a type of autoantibody) may also be done. This test helps determine if the patient has another autoimmune disease.
