At first hearing about people being happy they have Vitiligo was a shock to me initially, But I have met some people who are so glad too have it and when I asked why they said simply their life was so boring because they stayed in a shell but after having Vitiligo they became more noticeable and stood out more this made them interact with more people and this interaction caused them too meet new people and visit new places

  • Accepting of vitiligo maybe, but happy is too strong of an adjective I believe. :-)
  • I know it's hard for some people to accept the fact that they have Vitiligo but some people with Vitiligo have such a positive attitude about life they are not going to let the Vitiligo bring them down because they are always in good spirits if your a negative person with negative energy about Vitiligo please don't comment or piss on somebodies parade just because you are not as positive as they are some people see the glass as half full when others see the glass as half empty so if you see the glass as half empty please don't argue with the people who see it as half full !!!!!!!

  • I'm positive they wouldn't have vit if they had a choice. You can be happy with vit, that's fine, but happy because you have it, it's not right, it's like saying I would be happy being a leg amputee because I don't like to walk... please...
    • Hector I agree with you that's why I said I was shocked when I heard that some people are happy to have Vitiligo
    • I honestly dont know if I can say, I wouldnt have vit if I had a choice......I have had it since I was 7 and i am now 34. It is a huge part of who I am and who I have become.........and that is successful. I know that it is harder the older you are when you develop it, but for those people who have had it a long time.....maybe they would have vitiligo if they had a choice. I go through so many days where I look at my skin and see the vitiligo but that is normal for me so it doesnt phase me. There are some days when I look in the mirror and I just see me, the vitiligo doesnt define me. I dont think you can be positive that some of us wouldnt choose it. And why couldnt it be right to be happy because you have it. Maybe it has made you a better person and more tolerable of differences. Don't judge us and we wont judge you!

I dont live with Vitiligo......Vitiligo has to live with me!!!!!!!!!! ( I need to design a shirt that says that)
      • From what you wrote I understand that vitiligo DEFINES you, in spite of you stating the contrary. I would expect the same reasoning from person born blind for instance, who out of fear or comfort would hypothetically choose the same condition.

There are people who choose a handicap to prove themselves something, be it modifying their bodies or holding vows for years, so far I haven't heard of anyone using monobenzone to get a "unique" patchy look just because they feel it's the right thing to do.

For the record, I stated you CAN be perfectly happy with vitigo, what is BS is someone saying they're happy BECAUSE they have it. Proof is nobody has ever gotten the condition willfully.
        • Hector maybe some people are happy because they have it you never know, it's not our job to judge other people if they say they are happy with it just let it be because maybe you are the type of person who is having a hard time accepting it you shouldn't piss on somebody's parade or spoil there positive energy just let them live in their limelight because life is short if they say their life is better because of the Vitiligo and the attention it brings them just respect that and let them live their life

        • Vitiligo does not define me because I choose to live above it.

I am not really sure of your viewpoint of your own condition therefore, I wont really comment further. I feel that I am comfortable with my vitiligo, I am happy with it and I am happy that I have it. I am passed the point of "woe is me....look I am spotted".

Maybe, I am just having a harder time conveying my true sentiment here. I just like to live in positivity.
          • I love your spirit and energy Cara

    • damn mixed opinions..i agree with Hector as Im at the stage of accepting my vit, although only just arriving at this point through a number of v low points. And Iknow for a fact that vit is an 'eye opener' in countless ways. Hector, I don't get the 'its a pretty unique pattern' chat either, its an emotional diversion - great in theory for me!
