I know I have read that Vitiligo can run in Families (although in my case I am not aware of any member of my family ever having Vitiligo). My husband and I are trying to start a family but I'm concerned because I don't want to pass this on to them. Have any of you seen this in your children?

My mom has vitiligo, and I'm the only one so far who has inherited it from her...i've got 3 other siblings
My mom got it when she was about 50 while i first discovered it when i was in my mid 20s...
Great question I was curious about this too as some day in the future I would like to have children (Im 23 now). My father had vitiligo and I have it, mine started around age 12. But my two brothers do not have it they are ages 26 and 17. No one else in my family has vitiligo.
Do you think pregnancy will cause our vitiligo to get a lot worse? I have read it may get worse on a website, but I have not heard that from someone pregnant directly.
I have had Vitiligo for 21 years and my son has had it 22 years. Two of my children do not have it. I fear my grandbabies will get it.
vitiligo is genetic in a small percentage of patients, while auto immunity accounts for majority of the cases, however i have seen in my clinical practice a few families in whom autoimmune diseases run,
the chances of you passing this on to your children are remote
however there is a small chance of your vitiligo flaring up during pregnancy and childbirth period

I don't have any children. However, no one in either my paternal or maternal side of the family has it. Not as far back as either side can remember.
could of been a recessed gene or something. or never came to fruition in others.
you wear it well though. ;-)
