I was seven when my vitiligo started. My grandmother had just passed away (stress) and I had gone on a field trip with my class. I got sunburned on the field trip and the spots that burned turned white. Around my eyes and mouth and nose.
When did your vitiligo start? Was there a stressful event that could have triggered it? Where did it first appear?
I just wonder if age it started or length of time you have had vitiligo has anything to do wth your attitude towards it.

i was 19 when i got it. started as a tiny speck on the right part of my chest then spread upward to my neck and right side of my face. was initially desperate and tried so many herbal remedies with no success. gave up and about a year later, my skin started to repigment. most of my vitligo is gone and you wouldn't even know till i take off my shirt and you see the one left on my chest where it basically started. i cant say i know what triggered it but i do know i was stressed at the time however. my dad had been dead for years and mum was struggling with debt to raise us. though she was remarried, my step dad never gave a dime in assistance. a real meanie.
I was 25-26 when I noticed my first patch of real vitiligo, but I had always had a patch on my stomach which wouldn't tan properly from a very young age, but it definitely wasn't anything near white in colour, just paler than the rest of my skin and refused to ever darken completely and blend in with the rest of the tone of my body, which frequently puzzled me as a younger adult!
I can't identify any specific major stresses at around 25yrs old, but I was prescribed oxytetracycline (antibiotic) at that time which was cited many years ago in a research paper at the time (1980's), as one of a few possible causes; but I feel that to develop a life-long condition in the manner that I have, even if the antibiotic did precipitate the onset of the disease for me, I feel I must have already been genetically predisposed in some way, for the condition to break out and continue to spread over the past 20+ yrs as it has.
It's hard for me to determine if I have any genetic links, as I've never known any of my grandparents and from my knowledge, after meeting most of my extended family in the past, none of them have vitiligo? It appears that I alone, within my family, have this condition.
heyy, i was 15 when i noticed a white spot on my left armpit. i don't know if it was stress that caused it and it's not genetics because my parents don't have it...but before i got vitiligo i started taking ballet lessons and instead of shaving my armpits i plucked them ( i know it's weird ), but right after i plucked them i would put on deodorant. i don't think it's healthy to wear deodorant right after you have just plucked your armpits, so that's what i think caused my vitiligo.
genetics are involved in Vitiligo... in most cases, not all it skips a generation. it can start at any point in your life, mostly when youre young. mine didnt slowly start till i was 49, and was visible to anyone else for two more years. my grandmothers started in her late 70... well, thats when it was noticeable, who knows how much was hidden by her clothing before it spread to her face and hands.
just because you dont see it on someone doesn't mean they dont have it, they could be god at hiding it, or it hasnt made an appearance yet, or they didnt live long enuff for it to make one.
physical or mental stress seems to cause advancement of Vit.
unfortunately, we dont have all the answers, and they're not just one answer for every question. everyone's Vit behaves differently and reacts differently to various treatments.
I think my vitiligo star when i was about six or seven but then anyone didnt knows about it. When i get my first child, i was then 19 years old ,i notice that my fingers was turning white. Every time when i was pregnant my fitiligo spread, and now its all over to me. I met skin disease doctor last summer and she told me that they dont know how to cure this disease. But i have accept my vitiligos and i dont shame myself. It is allright to be bit different :)
it started with me when i was 16 and im sure its from stress coz i was haveing so much problems with my father and thinking so much about it and im from the kind of persons who keep things inside of him and keep thinking of it alot and it start with one little spot in my neck and im sure its related with my attitudes in this age :)
I was 13, the summer before 8th grade. I had 2 little white spots come up on my knuckles of my left hand. There was no stress in my life, still have no idea what triggered it. I am now 25, it spread into generalized vitiligo, so now both my hands are completely without pigment up to the wrist, my feet have lost most their pigment, I have a few on my knees, on the insides of my wrists, and my chest and recently got one on each side of my mouth. My attitude towards it is it sucks but at least it is not deadly and I can pretty much live a normal life. I definitley get looks in the summer time like people think I am gross or something but I try to remind myself I am just unique! There is definitely no one else in the world that is just like me!! :)
I was around 5 years old. I would play at the park a lot and would often scrape my knees falling down at the playground. White patches formed on both knees. The doctor diagnosed me with vitiligo at a young age. The vitiligo didn't really spread much from my knees until i hit puberty. Around the time i was in high school my hands and feet were beginning to lose pigment. At the age of 25 i have symmetrical pigment loss on my hands, feet, knees, abdominal area, chest, arm pits, forearms, and a bit of pigment loss on the face, specifically the chin and around the lips. Since discovering this great community I have really made an effort to reverse the pigment loss. This past summer, for the first time my knees began to regain color and are about 80% repigmented. So, my vitiligo started at around age 5 on my knees and are beginning to repigment now 20 years later where it all began.
My vitiligo started when I was 16-17 years old. My grandmother died suddenly and my twin sister got pregnant young. I guess the stress triggered my vitiligo . My twin sister noticed few spots a year ago at the age of 28. I guess we both carry a gen that is responsible for the condition.

I'm 32 and its starting up..my dad's side all went grey early on the hair..and that seems
to be a possible catalyst I guess is the word for getting it
