Hi, my almost 3 year old daughter, has vitiligo, which started around her private area this past year, and has now spread to her feet, hands, arm pits, and belly. I'm hoping it doesn't progress to her face, but i think i see signs of it starting under her eye lid.
My father has vitiligo, and my uncle on my mother's side, contracted it after handling fertilizer in his 50's.
One doctor already saw my daughter and said there isn't anything you can do, unless it develops on her face, and she's older. She's scheduled for a second opinion next week.
After doing some reading online, I see there are creams at least, that could work for children. Change in diet, sunscreen, and possibly vitamin D, ginko bilboa supplements, seem to be options others have used.
what can i do for her at such a young age?
thank you!

I realise that this is an old post - but I'm at the start of this journey with my 5 year old daughter and wondered how things were going with your children now? We have removed dairy and gluten from our daughter's diet, giving supplements (not Gingko Biloba currently, so I read this with interest). Amanda - did your daughter repigment without UVB?
We live in QLD Australia so we get plenty of sun, and I make sure my daughter gets lots of exposure to it. It does help. We've been doing lots of different things with detox and supplements and diet this year. It's a long road but I feel we're getting somewhere. Feel free to message me if you want a run down of what we're up to. My daughter is 6 now.
hi,i am so sorry to know that the cute baby has vitiligo, and i see her photos ,she is so beautiful.i think you should treatment her as soon as possible.i do not understang the doctor said you can do nothing now.if longer, untill the white patches spread ,it is diffucult to cure ,you have to take much more time and more money. do you know Chinese medicine?our hospital is pure Chinese medicine hospital, the drinking medicine and cream is pure Chinese medicine ,it is green and safe, especially for chidren ,the medicine is different from adults.many children be cured in our hospital.for example India and America.you can take your daughter to our hospital,at first ,you can try for free for 1-4 days, after you see the effect, then you decide if receive treatment in our hospital. if you have other problems about vitiligo, contact with me ,i am glad if i can help you.my email is hhbdfyy@163.com.
Yesterday, we went to see a 2nd dermatologist for a second opinion. This one, quickly verified Hannah had Vitiligo, and prescribed Protopic. Once a day for a week, then 2xs a week, and he wants to see her in about 8 weeks. I asked him wether he had any other patients with Vitiligo, or children, and he said "no". He's checking on a doctor he knew of years ago, who may have specialized in Vitiligo in the New Haven area, but he's uncertain if the doctor is still practicing. Anyone out there know of anyone we can search out in the New York area? I'm doing my own research now online.
I purchased the "Wanakee's Nutritional Approach to Vitiligo", and am still reading through that. The only thing I have done so far, was to buy Vitamin D3 chewables and am giving them to her daily, along with multivitamins. Am waiting for her annual in a few weeks, when I'll get to speak more with her pediatrician.
Nope, he didn't say much of anything about it. I guess that's pretty common with the complaints I've read about doctors these days. He only mentioned that due to her condition, she should avoid sun exposure, but not in relation to Protopic application. I'm applying sun screen to her body, but not religiously keeping her out of the sun like a vampire. Just bein gcautious about time of day, and wether she's in and out of shady spots.
In theory, the doc is right, without pigment we are at a higher risk for burning, however, for theraputic reasons I (i am in no way a doctor) would let her spots get at least 10 minutes of direct .sunlight with the protopic then put the sunscreen on. I repigment best with protopic and UVB light or protopic and direct sun. I always let my protopic spots turn light pink, if I do, then my chances of freckling are better. I'm not suggesting you do this with a 3 year old, just saying what I do. Over the years I've developed a routine of protopic and different SPF's i simultaneously apply because I go to the beach a lot.

Thanks Amanda - I'd really appreciate that! I've had to send you a friend request before I can message you. Fay

Is this obligatory to travel in your hospital for individual treatment?
