3.5 Year Old Diagnosed.

My son is 3.5 years old and was just diagnosed with Vitiligo. It changes color and appearance a lot. Is that normal? He was prescribed Elidel. Has anyone used that and seen results? What about diet changes and or supplements? B 12 or Folic Acid? Any advice or suggestions would be great.

  • Hi,

I added you as a friend so I could PM you... but I will just reply here. My daughter's changes colour and appearance a lot... I notice it is whiter when she is tired. Is that what your son's does as well?

    • There are many people who have repigmented after removing gluten or diary from their diets. Gluten seems to be a big issue for a lot ppl with digestive issues. It may be something else for your son. It a long and painful process but if something is found and removing it may help tremendously.
    • My son was tested for the most common allergies and was fine. They do not seem to flair up when he is tired.
    • @Rebekka Michel are you still nursing your daughter?  if so is it possible to change your diet?  try gluten and diary free and see it that helps.  It may be that she has alot of allergies and her immune system is sensitive and mistakenly  responsding to these things.

I would definitely not introduce her to baby food for a while.

Is it possible for you to take her to a children's hospital with a comprehensive dermatology/allergy department?

      • I see that a lot of people recommend going to an allergist. Has it worked for anyone? Has anyone been successful in knowing something they are allergic to and having excluded that food from their diet their vit improved/corrected itself.

  • Nobody has vit in our families, my daughter seems to be the only one. But her grandfather got white hair at a really early age, I think by 35 yrs old all his hair were white.

I had no constipation during or after my pregnancy.

We are using Protopic on my daughter, it's been 4 weeks and for now it doesn't help much.

    • Yes I read that too Annie. Loss of pigment in hair and skin is caused by oxidative stress. A lot of people get premature greying of hair that's more common than vitiligo. However some ppl get both.
    • I read somewhere it can be related.
    • Yeah, in my family there is no known history of vitiligo, but yet I got it. Does getting white hairs have some sort of relation? I'd never heard of that. I've gotten 2 white hairs since my diagnosis which shouldn't happen at my age, but I think that's just genetics. My mom got white hairs at a young age.
    • Hang in there Sonia . I called an Nauropath the other day for a consultation and he asked me about parasites. Somebody else mentioned that here a while ago. So I googled it and it does seem that my son has a lot of those symptoms. I want to get his stool checked out for parasites. Might not be a bad idea to get your daughters checked out for parasites. A comprehensive stool profile. Hope that helps
