I have an appointment with my dermatologist at the end of this month. I understand that for some here it is difficult, if not impossible, to see a specialist. So, I would be willing to take questions you have and ask my Derm. I won't be able to ask him 50 questions, but I will try to get as many as possible answered. My Name is Pete. I first noticed a spot on my hand, between my thumb and finger, That didn't tan. That was August 2011. I didn't pay much attention to it but I brought it up to my Doctor on my next appointment. She said that it was Vitiligo. She gave me a prescription for a topical steroid and that was it. This was in November. She never recommended I see a Dermatologist and it was only at my initiative did she finally give me the referral. I went to see the dermatologist in Toronto and was given a prescription for protopic cream. Very expensive and because my vit has spread rapidly it wasn't an option for me. Started doing my own research. I eventually found out about narrow band UVB. I also found somewhere local were I could go. Once I met that dermatologist he prescribed me a different topical steroid and light therapy. I continued my research. I found studies involving a compound that showed positive results on mice. This study was completed in 2006. There have been no follow up studies that would be required to pass the various government hurdles to bring it to market. It seems that if there isn't enough profit then pharmaceutical companies don't do the clinical trials necessary to bring it to market.
I, after many attempts, was able to find and purchase this compound. I located a local pharmacy that had the equipment to mix this compound with a base cream. March 1st I started to apply this cream twice a day to vit spots around both sides of my mouth and chin. Two and a half months later it had regimented almost completely. The vit spread to my hands, now they too are starting to re pigment. It has now spread to other parts of my body, so i will start the same treatment wherever it spreads. I have posted before and after pics.
